A Wafer Butterfly Valve has four holes that line up with the pipeline it's attached to. It's easy to install, but it can't be used as an isolation valve. A disc is connected to the rod in this form of valve. In pipeline work, the valve is designed to clamp between two flanges. The majority of valves are compatible with the majority of flange standards. The disc rotates in parallel or at 90 degrees to the motion while the actuator is rotated.
