A broker is an organization which acts as a mediator between the Investor/Trader Investor and the exchange for stocks. In simple terms it is one who buys or sells for the benefit on behalf of others. In the market for stocks brokers are an entity or an individual who executes buy and sell orders on behalf the investor on an amount and on a commission basis. Be aware that at no time does the broker hold or owns shares.
